Diego Baroni

He studied under the guidance of Agide Brunelli at the Bonporti Conservatory in Riva del Garda and subsequently specialized in clarinet and bass clarinet (with Alessandro Carbonare, Fabrizio Meloni, Agide Brunelli, Massimo Rissone, and Denis Zanchetta). He participated in Masterclasses with Antony Pay, Thomas Friedli, and Karl Leister. From 1992 to 1993, he was a member of the Italian Youth Orchestra.

Since 2004, he has been a member of the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich in the role of principal bass clarinet. He has regularly collaborated with numerous symphony orchestras (Accademia di Santa Cecilia, RAI National Symphony Orchestra, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Orchestra Filarmonica Toscanini, Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie) and opera houses (Opera di Roma, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Opernhaus Zürich, Teatro Regio in Turin, Teatro Comunale in Bologna, Puccini Festival). He has played under the direction of some of the greatest contemporary conductors (including Maazel, Giulini, Haitink, Blomstedt, Jansons, Salonen, Masur, Welser-Möst, Sawallisch), performing in the most renowned concert halls in the world (Carnegie Hall New York, Teatro Colon Buenos Aires, Suntory Hall Tokyo, Royal Albert Hall London, Philharmonie Berlin, Musikverein Vienna).

In his chamber music and solo activities, he has collaborated with renowned Ensembles and soloists (Schweizer Oktett, Ensemble Musica Attuale, Quintetto Bibiena, Emmanuel Pahud, Salome Kammer, Thomas Grossenbacher, Cappella Istropolitana Bratislava). He is also active in the field of contemporary music, with solo and chamber world premieres (Mundry, Fedele, Globokar, Vacchi, Matesic, Pallante) and collaborations with artists from extra-classical fields (Jazzanova, ElectroAcousticOrchestra, Nik Bärtsch/Ronin, Andrea Centazzo, Jojo Mayer's Nerve, Tobias Förster).

He has held courses and Masterclasses in Bass Clarinet in Italy and abroad. From 2005 to 2008, he was woodwind section coach and assistant conductor at the Junge Philharmonie Elbe-Weser (Germany). He has also collaborated as a coach with the Schweizer Jugend-Sinfonie-Orchester (Swiss Youth Symphony Orchestra) and the Filarmonica Joven de Colombia (Colombian Youth Orchestra).
